Method/Rules for Scheduling a Ride

To be picked up at a location between stops or “Schedule a Flex,” you call the scheduling office. To be dropped off as a FLEX you must notify the driver when boarding the bus the location you need. If you need to be picked back up from a FLEXED stop, you must call the scheduling office again to make arrangements.

More Important Details

Operating Area

Van Buren Public Transit Flexible Routes operate in two areas:

  • South Haven Metro Flex Loop: Operates in the City of South Haven and South Haven Township (See route map here).
  • Paw Paw Concord Flex Loop: Operates in the Village of Paw Paw (See route map here).

Buses can deviate from the route to pick up or drop off passengers from other locations along the way when prearranged through dispatch. Once a passenger is picked up from the “FLEXED” location the vehicle will return to its regular route and continue on from the place it left, or deviated from the route. Flexes are arranged time permitting, and may not be available if a driver is already running behind schedule. A vehicle can FLEX up to two blocks away from its route.

Accessibility & Eligibility

Paratransit/Reduced Fare Eligibility

This service does not have complementary paratransit because it is a curb-to-curb, flexible route service, not fixed route. VBPT buses are lift/ramp equipped for wheelchair or mobility aide users. Additionally, VBPT Demand Response/Dial-A-Ride transportation is available as an alternative to the flexible route options.

Reduced fare is available to Seniors (60+), Veterans, Persons with Disabilities, Children, and Students.

  • Seniors (60+) ride free with a Transit Rider Card. Seniors may submit the Transit Rider Card Application with a copy of Birth Certificate, Driver’s License, State ID, or Passport for certification.
  • Veterans ride free with a Transit Rider Card. Veterans may submit the Transit Rider Card Application with a copy of DD214 or DD256, Military ID, VA Healthcare Card, Veteran I.D., State I.D. w/Veteran designation, or Driver’s License w/Veteran designation for certification.

All others (Persons with Disabilities, Children, Students) who present the card can pay the reduced fee on all Loop and Dial-A-Ride services, as well as Reservation and Out-Of-County rides for medical reasons. Qualifying individuals can complete the application https://www.vanburencountymi.gov/DocumentCenter/View/1779/Transit-Rider-Card-2020. A licensed physician must sign for certification of disability.
