Disability Rights Michigan

DRM filed a special education administrative complaint on behalf of students with disabilities who were being funneled into a court-operated school, because their school district did not have adequate processes to identify students with special education needs. The Michigan Department of Education, Office of Special Education directed the school to develop and implement adequate “Child Find” policies and procedures.  The district was also directed to evaluate 10 students identified during the course of the investigation, and if the students were determined eligible, to provide them with compensatory education as well.
